Charity Champion Richard Banks is celebrating reaching his fundraising target of £10,000 for Willen Hospice. It's been a year-long campaign for the bathware specialist who runs Bathworks bathroom and tile studio in Bradwell Abbey.
Team Bathworks took on gruelling bike ride challenges including London to Brighton twice and London to Milton Keynes, plus various football matches with vets and young teams and two collecting stints at Dobbies Garden Centre.
Richard said "I am delighted, relieved and so grateful to everyone who has helped out and supported us in so many ways. It was a big challenge and a year ago I didn't know if I could reach the target. It's been a great experience. "I am a massive fan of Willen Hospice and the great work that goes on there. We all know people and their families who need specialist help and at Willen Hospice they are in the best hands."
BathWorks, which has been based in Milton Keynes since 2003, has formed a special charity partnership with Willen Hospice which provides specialist end of life care to local patients and support for their families. Willen Hospice is the only hospice within Milton Keynes and surrounding areas, covering an expanding population of 300,000. It needs to raise £3.6 million a year to continue providing free care to all people affected by life limiting illness within the community.
Willen Hospice mascot Florence was on hand to help with the special celebrations. Paul Hinson, Chief Executive at Willen Hospice said "We'd like to say a massive thank you to Richard and the team at Bathworks for their incredible ingenuity, dedication and hard work in raising this wonderful sum over the last year to support the care here at Willen Hospice.
"We're absolutely thrilled to have had their support and offer our congratulations in hitting their target. We need to raise £7 every minute of the year and the money raised by Richard and his team will go towards helping us always be there to care for our patients and their loved ones."
Any further funding for Willen Hospice would be much appreciated.
